Nigeria has finally unveiled its national airline called Nigeria Air.
The national carrier was unveiled earlier today at the Farnborough Airshow 2018 currently holding in the United Kingdom.
Nigeria Air has been in the works since the last three years after President Muhammadu Buhari came into office.
The airline was unveiled by the Minister of State, Aviation senator Hadi Sirika. He is yet to update his Twitter page with the details of the airline as he normally did for previous information regarding the carrier.
It would be recalled that Sirika had announced the Deutsche Lufthansa AG, Air France KLM and Ethiopian Airways were the parties bidding to manage the airline under a joint venture.
Nigeria Air’s slogan revealed at the launch is “Bringing Nigeria closer to the world.” The carrier is expected to begin operations in December 2018 across local, regional and international routes numbering close to about 81 routes.
Quoting the minister, the official Twitter handle of the federal government, @AsoRock said:
“The Nigerian Government will not own more than 5% (maximum) of the new National Carrier. The government will not be involved in running it or deciding who runs it.”
However, the identity of the majority shareholders has not been disclosed as at the time of writing the report.
