Latest data released by Jumia, one of the largest eCommerce company in Nigeria, says Infinix is the most sold smartphone on the site.
The data was contained in Jumia’s annual Mobile Report for Nigeria. The report gives an overview of the Nigeria Internet space with a deep focus on the mobile Internet and smartphone sector.
According to the report, Infinix, a smartphone from Nigeria’s Transsion Holdings is the most sold smartphone in Nigeria as well as Tecno, Samsung, Apple’s iPhone, Fero Mobile as well as Leagoo, a new entrant into the market.
Infinix is a member brand of Transsion Holdings with Tecno, being flagship the flagship brand of the company as well as itel mobile, a mass market brand. The company came into the market more than a decade ago when Nokia and BlackBerry were the major market leaders.
It is interesting to see Tecno and Infinix now leading the market they entered late. With its three brands, Transsion is now the country’s largest smartphone maker. Samsung has in recent times focused its attention on the high-end of the market. However, the harsh economic condition has indeed reduced consumer’s appetites for luxury products.
The Nigeria mobile phone market is the largest in Africa and among the largest in emerging markets. With over 100 million mobile phone users whom over 90% own at least one smartphone, the Nigerian market has now become an attractive haven for phone makers such as Transsion Holdings and Samsung.
