Green Africa Airways, a Nigerian airline startup said it has appointed William Shaw, Founder & former CEO of VivaColombia to its board of directors.

The company said in an email statement cited by PageOne.ng that “William founded VivaColombia, Colombia’s first true value airline, in 2008. As the founding CCO and later on CEO, William played critical roles in leading the airline from just a business school idea to one of the leading carriers in Colombia today. With the backing of Irelandia Aviation, he left VivaColombia in 2015 to set up VivaLatinamerica Holdings and launch Viva Air, VivaColombia’s sister airline and the first value airline in Peru. He currently sits on Viva Air’s Board of Directors.

Prior to founding VivaColombia, he spent 14 years at British Airways in various commercial and operational roles before eventually becoming a Regional Director. William earned his Bachelor’s degree from CESA in Colombia, a certificate in Management Studies from Oxford Brookes University and an MSc in Management (with additional certificates in Public & Global Management) from Stanford Graduate School of Business.

As a seasoned entrepreneur and industry leader, William has an extensive firsthand experience of the big-picture thinking and detailed execution mindset required to successfully launch and grow a value airline in an emerging market. His presence on the Board will be invaluable as we continue on this journey to build Green Africa Airways into a premier customer-centric Brand,” the statement said.
