Ahead of the winner takes all quarter final tie against Angola, Coach Salisu Yusuf of Nigeria has denied that his side are strong favourites at the ongoing African Nations Championship.

The Home based Super Eagles Coach was speaking at the pre-match press conference in Tangier, Morocco.

Salisu’s Eagles confronts the Palancas Negras on Sunday inside Grand Stade Ibn Batouta on Sunday evening at about 4.30pm local time (5.30pm Nigerian Time)

“We are not, Salisu said. Everybody knows that Morocco is the team to win this championship.”

The Eagles came out top of Group C following a draw in their opener against Rwanda, one nil victory against Libya and 3-1 thrashing of Equatorial Guinea in the last game. The Nigerian side however finished with 7 points in all.

Based on the number of goals scored by the Eagles thus far, the Angolans will have their hands full when they square out on Sunday. Angola finished second from Group D without conceding a goal, winning one match against Cameroon, playing goalless draw in Congo and Burkina Faso ties.

Coach Salisu Yusuf added: “The Angolans are well organized defensively, they have not conceded a goal in the tournament, I believe they deserve to be here too.”
“We already know their strength which is defense while our is to attack, and we will try to unlock them to see that we win the match.”

He also admitted that the match is a must win for his side as he refused to dismiss talks about being under pressure to go all the way. “Pressure goals with the game of football. We need to win to progress ahead of our opponent.”
