Taxify suspends driver in alleged rape scandal

One of Nigeria’s biggest ride-hailing company, Taxify said it has suspended relationship with the driver involved in an alleged rape scandal that has since gone viral on social media.

The company said in a statement that:

This is an unfortunate event which we believe could have been better managed by both parties. As this is an ongoing investigation with the authorities, we had to suspend our relationship with the driver partner pending the results of the investigation.

In line with this, it is important to note that any misunderstanding with riders MUST never become physical regardless of the gender of the rider. Service policies must be adhered to at all times including not asking for destination over the phone, not rejecting card payments etc.

Please note that Taxify has a ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY when cases of assault of any nature is reported and the outcomes are very serious!

Be careful, drive safe and let’s keep moving Lagos

In order to learn and build from this and for this we are scheduling a driver partner roundtable to discuss important issues as we build a reliable service for all moving forward.

Details of the roundtable schedule will be communicated in the coming days.

Taxify is a direct competition with a bigger rival, Uber which operates in the same city. Lagos is Nigeria’s largest city with over 25 million people.
