Stephan Pretorius appointed CEO of WPP’s Wunderman

Wunderman, a WPP company and global digital agency, has appointed Stephan Pretorius to the newly created position of UK Group CEO to oversee the group’s growing operations in the UK.

Pretorius will be responsible for Wunderman’s businesses in the UK, including Acceleration, Burrows, Cognifide, Fusepump, POSSIBLE, Salmon and Wunderman London, which collectively make the group one of the largest digital agencies in the UK.  A key priority will be to give clients seamless access to a range of services which span digital strategy, experience design, ecommerce, content, marketing technology and digital transformation consulting.

Pretorius joined Wunderman as its Chief Technology Officer in 2016 along with Acceleration, a marketing technology consulting company that he founded in 1999.  He will continue in his role of Chief Technology Officer with an expanded team.

In the past three years, Wunderman has grown from 900 to over 2,000 people on the back of significant new business wins with clients such as BT/EE and GSK, as well as the addition of new service offerings particularly in marketing, commerce and experience technology management.
With 17 years’ marketing and advertising technology background, he is passionate about helping brands master the technology and develop the capabilities necessary to deliver groundbreaking digital strategies.

As Wunderman’s first chief technology officer, Stephan Pretorius is responsible for defining the agency’s technology vision and strategy, and for managing its relationship with key technology partners such as Google, Adobe, Salesforce, Oracle, IBM and Facebook.

Earlier in his career, Stephan recognized the potential of technology-enabled marketing to radically influence the way brands engage with consumers. In 1999, he cofounded Acceleration, the leading marketing technology consultancy. Acceleration joined WPP in 2012 and became a division of Wunderman in 2016.

A native of South Africa, Stephan holds a master’s degree in media & telecommunications law from Columbia Law School.
