Mr. Ahovi G. Kponou, Chief Investment Officer,Coronation Capital

Ahovi G. Kponou has a multi-faceted financial services background with over 20 years of experience in buyside investing and investment banking. He has invested in or advised companies throughout developed markets in North America/Europe as well as emerging/frontier markets in Africa, Latin America, Central Asia and the Middle East. As an investment professional, Ahovi has 15 years of buy-side experience investing across the capital structure in private equity, distressed debt and public equity opportunities in a variety of industries.

Prior to joining Coronation Capital, Ahovi G. Kponou was a Strategic Consultant at PanAfrican Investment Company, a Sub-Saharan Africa-focused private equity firm, where he held significant responsibility for deal sourcing, due diligence and transaction execution for new opportunities as well as monitoring and promoting value creation within existing portfolio companies. Earlier in his career, he also worked in Cape Town, South Africa with Southern Asset Management (now part of MMI Holdings, the South African life insurer) and as an associate at Oak Hill Partners, a NY-based private equity firm with $750M+ AUM. As a public markets investor, Ahovi pursued the launch of Outpost Partners, a hedge fund focused on public equity opportunities in emerging and frontier markets including Sub-Saharan Africa, MENA, Central Asia and Latin America.

Before Outpost, he was a Partner at Para Advisors LLC, a $1B+ AUM special situations hedge fund focused on catalyst-driven investment opportunities across the capital structure. Within the investment banking space, Ahovi was an Associate in Morgan Stanley & Co.’s M&A and high yield capital markets groups and he began his career as a Financial Analyst in the Goldman Sachs M&A department.

Mr. Kponou earned his MBA from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business with a concentration in Finance and International Business and he has an MS in Engineering-Economic Systems and a BA in Quantitative Economics also from Stanford University.
