Groupm appoints Chung Youngoo as CEO for Korean unit

GroupM has appointed Chung Youngoo (Jason Chung) as CEO in Korea. He joins GroupM following 17 years in senior positions with online businesses in Korea, including eBay, Travelocity, TripAdvisor and most recently EF Education First. 

GroupM said in a statement that Chung Youngoo is taking over from SeonKoog Cho, the former CEO, left the company in December.

GroupM has nearly 300 employees in Korea across Mindshare, MEC, MediaCom, Maxus, M2 Digital, Xaxis and DTSI. It billed USD138 million in 2016 according to Recma. Chung’s experience and track record in digital businesses is crucial because “media, marketing and ecommerce in Korea now center on the convergence of data, technology and digital platforms”, said Mark Patterson, GroupM APAC CEO. “It has been our imperative to infuse our business with fresh thinking and diverse backgrounds,” he added.

Earier in his career, Chung was a consultant with Accenture in Boston in the US. He holds an MBA from The Whitman School of Management and an MSc in information resources management.
