The federal government says it will continue to use sports not only as a veritable tools in engaging youth in meaningful ventures but to also create more business opportunities for Nigerians.
Acting secretary to the government of the federation Dr Habiba Lawal stated this while presenting equipments to selected public schools in Ondo state.
Represented by the permanent secretary, special duties, office of the government of the federation Dr Amina Shamaki, Mrs Lawal noted that government will continually donate sports equipments to schools especially in the grassroots to identify potential to replace aged athletes.
While applauding the gesture,Ondo state governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu who was represented by secretary to the state government Mr Ifedayo Abegunde said the state has been investing in sports generally and will not relent as it has helped in producing talents for the nation and empowering youths in the state.
Donating the equipments to schools heads, Secretary national lottery trust fund Mr Abu Gumel charged school principals and pupils to make judicious use of the equipment and not to sale or divert the items for other purpose aside sports.
Speaking with our sports correspondent Isaac Afolabi ,a head teacher from Saint Peters Anglican primary school, Oloruntele in ile oluji oke-igbo local government area of the state, Mrs Orolakin Dorcas expressed joy saying the equipment will make learning of physical health education easier for the pupils.
A total number of fourty-five schools were selected and received the equipment for nine different sports which includes Volleyball, Basketball, Handball, Judo among others.
