Arto Nummela resigns as HMD Global’s CEO

Arto Nummela, the Chief Executive Officer of HMD Global, makers of Nokia phones has resigned his appointment from the company.

A statement released by the company from its Finnish headquarters, the company said Arto Nummela will leave HMD with immediate effect.

Commenting on the changes, Sam Chin, Chairman of the Board, HMD Global Oy said: ”Arto Nummela has played a key role in the creation of the HMD Global operation, building the team and launching our first products. On behalf of the whole Board, I thank Arto for his contribution and wish him well in his future endeavors.”

In addition to his current role as President, HMD Global said it has appointed Florian Seiche has been appointed to the role of acting CEO, starting immediately. Florian has been co-leading HMD Global as President since the start of the company.

Before Arto joined HMD, he was Vice President at Microsoft Mobile Devices Sales group in Greater Asia, Middle East and Africa region. Arto joined Nokia in 1994 and had broad range of positions from product creation, portfolio and business management to sales and marketing, globally.

Arto has deep roots in Finland and was an intrinsic part of the original Nokia team starting from 1994.

An experienced and respected figure in the telecom industry, Arto has a proven track record of leading global businesses toward innovation, growth and commercial success. Arto has led teams in strategic global product planning, developing and launching new products in: Europe, the Americas, India, the Middle East, Africa and the Asia-Pacific region, including Australia, China and Japan. This has given him a unique, global perspective, hands on experience and a genuine passion for connectivity.

Arto also served as a member of the board of directors for CommNexus, a California-based tech incubator for start-ups, from 2011 to 2013. Since 2015, Arto has been driving the Microsoft Devices business in Greater Asia, the Middle East and Africa, with global leadership of the Feature Phones business.

Before he joined HMD, Florian Seiche served as President of Europe, Middle East and Africa at HTC Corporation since July 2010 until May 1, 2013. Florian Seiche served as President of HTC Europe Middle East & Africa at HTC America Inc. Florian Seiche served as vice president of HTC Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

Florian Seiche served as Vice President of Europe at HTC Corporation since May 8, 2007 until July 2010. As the founder of HTC’s EMEA operations in 2005, Florian Seiche has grown HTC’s business and brand to be one of the top smart phone makers in EMEA.
