Sibanye appoints Robert Van Niekerk to head Southern Africa

Sibanye Gold, one of Africa’s largest gold producer has appointed Robert Van Niekerk as an executive vice president for the company’s Southern Africa region.

Mr. Robert Van Niekerk has been the Chief Executive Officer of Platinum Division at Sibanye Gold Limited since November 1, 2016. Mr. Van Niekerk served as an Executive Vice President of Organisational Effectiveness at Sibanye Gold Limited until November 1, 2016 and served as its Senior Vice President of Organizational Effectiveness since February 2013. Mr. Van Niekerk served as Executive Vice President of Africa for Uranium One Inc., and also served as its Executive Vice President of Technical Services since August 2008.

He served as Executive Vice President of Africa and Europe for Uranium One Inc., until August 2008 and its Secretary. He served as Chief Operating Officer of Aflease Gold Ltd. He joined Aflease as an Executive Vice President in September 2005. He has worked in the Mining Industry in South Africa and Canada for Harmony and ERPM. He served as Mine Manager of Anglo Platinum and Business Manager of Watervaal UG2 Mine.

From 2000 to 2001, he served as Mine Manager of Evander 3, 5 and 6 Shafts at Harmony Gold Mining Company. He served as Chief Operating Officer of SXR Uranium One Inc. since January 10, 2006 and also served as its Executive Vice President, Africa & Europe region and Gold. He served as Executive Director of Aflease Gold Ltd. He served as Executive Director of sxr Uranium One Inc. since January 10, 2006.

Mr. Van Niekerk has a BSc. in Mining Engineering from the University of the Witwatersrand and a National Higher Diploma in Metalliferous Mining from the Witwatersrand Technicon.
