Zapper and Alipay, the world’s largest mobile and online payments platform have entered into a partnership to enable users who visit South Africa the opportunity to pay at more than 10,000 Zapper-affiliated merchants.
To make payments, Alipay users simply scan a Zapper QR code at any Zapper merchant with the Alipay app, confirm the settlement amount and authorize payment.
In this regard, the foreign customer’s payment journey is similar to that experienced by users of the Zapper app.
The cross-continental partnership is in line with its plan to diversify its service range with targeted verticals including those in hospitality, retail, bills, ecommerce, donations, parking, fuel and convenience.
The team at Zapper unites business and technology professionals with a wealth of experience in both payments and mobile app development. Its developers have a proven track record in delivering world-class mobile apps for millions of users around the globe and across multiple platforms and languages. Its vision is to provide a simple and satisfying user experience that is convenient and valuable for both businesses and their customers.
Alipay is a third-party online payment platform. It was launched in China in 2004 by Alibaba Group and its founder Jack Ma. According to an analyst research report, Alipay had the biggest market share in China with 400 million users and control of just under half of China’s online payment market in October 2016. A now-retracted article in The Financialist claimed that Credit Suisse claimed that the total value of online transactions in China grew from an insignificant size in 2008 to around CNY 4 trillion (USD700 billion) in 2012. Alipay is the world’s largest mobile and online payments platform since 2014
