Following his retirement as Group Chief Executive of Famous Brands Limited on 29 February 2016, Kevin Hedderwick was appointed Strategic Advisor to Famous Brands for a twelve-month period.
In his former position as Group Chief Executive, Kevin’s primary remit was Group Strategy with an overarching focus on growth of the business and unlocking value for stakeholders. Throughout his career Kevin has built a reputation for being a tough, hands-on, and highly effective business leader, particularly in turn-around or acutely competitive situations.
Kevin Hedderwick prides himself on being self-taught and a graduate of the University of Life, although he will admit to having gained his informal “MBA” during his career at SABMiller, which spanned 10 years. In 2000, Kevin joined the listed company Steers Holdings, as it was then known, as Managing Director of the Steers brand. Shortly thereafter he was appointed Chief Operating Officer of the Group, and in 2010 assumed the position of Chief Executive Officer.
In 2013, Kevin Hedderwick was appointed Group Chief Executive. He is widely credited with turning the small family business with a market capitalization of R35 million in 2000 into the R15 billion company it is today, comprising a fully integrated food services business consisting of best-in-class brands underpinned by significant manufacturing and logistics operations.
Famous Brands, the product of a name change and business-wide transformation project initiated by Kevin, is today representative of in excess of 25 brands, 2782 franchised restaurants, employs 5618 people and has a presence in South Africa, 15 other African countries, the UK and Middle East. The business has frequently featured in the Financial Mail and Business Times’ Top 100 Companies awards and currently holds Royal Company status, as defined by the Business Times.
Kevin’s professional career is steeped in experience gained in the hospitality industry, commencing with Distillers Corporation, which he joined as a young man in the position of merchandiser, and graduated over time to Group Marketing Director. Upon leaving Distillers Corporation, Kevin joined SABMiller and during his tenure with that group held a number of General Management positions. Kevin is a Non-Executive Director of Famous Brands, and also serves on the board of Holdsport Limited.
