Ride-haling contender to Uber, Taxify has launched Taxify Cover, an insurance package against liabilities to both the riders and the driver-partners during any ride in Lagos.

Operations Manager of Taxify Lagos, Uche Okafor. This is the first time an auto insurance company is playing an active role in the daily commute of riders and drivers using any ride-hailing app, and we are happy to be at the helm of it. This is line with our commitment to improving the quality of transportation in Lagos”

The General Manager, AutoGenius, Adebowale Banjo, said “In addressing the apparent and diverse risks in the e-hailing business, it was necessary to develop a digital, sophisticated and holistic product that not only secures riders and passengers but also their assets. Taxify Cover is a first in the industry and it caters to all attendant risks, providing maximum protection for drivers, riders and also the tools of service delivery. It is indeed a new dawn for this sector.”

The GM, Non-Life Business, AIICO, Adewale Kadiri, said “This indeed is a realization of AIICO’s constant aspiration and purposeful pursuit at supporting business initiatives through provision of risk-based solutions. While AIICO provides the Underwriting service, AutoGenius provides the channel and technological platform for the distribution of the product. We are indeed optimistic that this initiative will further expand the insurance market in Nigeria and increase market penetration. AIICO Insurance PLC is committed to the delivery of these products with our core values of service excellence, trust, team spirit, entrepreneurship, and professionalism.”

The move by Taxify to add insurance to its service bucket will further buoy the competition and perhaps refresh in the interest of passengers in ride-hailing service. We cannot confirm if Uber will be using this approach for its own services.
