Following reports making the rounds that Sunshine Stars of Akure has offered Austin Eguavoen a contract, head of the three man committee in charge of Ondo state football agency Mr Mike Elegbeleye has come out to deny the claims.
Elegbeleye who confirmed this in an interview with our sports correspondents Isaac Afolabi in Akure shortly after the week eighteen Nigeria Professional Football League match between sunshine stars and Remo stars at the weekend.
The former director general of the national sports commission said the meeting with Eguavoen was just mutual and that the former Eagles defender has not been offered any contract.
Recall that Sunshine stars coach, Olujohungbe was handed a two-game ultimatum by the club management to turn things around but he lost 2-1 to FC IfeanyiUbah in Nnewi and will get sacked if he fails to record a win against Remo Stars on Sunday at the Akure Township Stadium.
Olujohungbe has managed to record six wins so far this season with Sunshine Stars who are currently placed 18th in the NPFL table with 21 points after 17 games.
Meanwhile Thomas Adesina thirteenth minute goal gave sunshine stars a comfortable 1-0 victory against Remo stars.
Reacting to the match, Remo stars coach Fatai Osho commended the officiating saying his team will improve ahead of their next game against enyimba.
On his part sunshine stars coach Kayode Olujohungbe said he is confident the team will pick vital points in subsequent matches and move up the ladder in the Nigerian league.
Should Eguavoen finally secure the Akure top-job, his major task would be to ensure that the club stays afloat in the league and not relegate to lower division. Meanwhile, reports also making the rounds suggest that Eguavoen may even be willing to accept a short-term role with the Owena Whales until the end of the season, with the option to walk away if he is unable to keep them up.
