Brazil regains top spot in FIFA rankings

Brazil has returned to the summit of the FIFA world rankings for the first time in seven years.

It could be recalled that became the first country to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Their World Cup qualifying wins over Uruguay and Paraguay sealed Selecao’s top spot after being knocked out out the 2010 World Cup.

While Brazil have qualified as the first team for the 2018 tournament in Russia, Argentina are struggling and lost their last game in Bolivia as they slipped to second in the rankings with 1,603 points.

Current world champions Germany remain third and Chile fourth, Colombia climbed two into fifth, France remain sixth.

Belgium slipped two to seventh, Portugal and Spain stayed eighth and 10th while Switzerland rose from 11th to ninth.

Poland were one of six teams to record highest ranking in 11th place and Macedonia were the biggest movers when they climbed 33 spots into 133rd.

Meanwhile, the Super Eagles of Nigeria are now the 5th best team in Africa and currently occupy 40th position in the world ranking. The Eagles were ranked 41st in March ranking but moved a place up following a 1-1 international friendly draw against Senegal in London.

Nigeria occupy fifth place in Africa behind the likes of Egypt, Senegal, Cameroon and Burkina Faso.

The next FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking will be published on 4 May 2017.
