Ghana appoints Ernest Addison as Central Bank Governor

The President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo has appointed Ernest Addison as the nation’s new central bank governor following the resignation of Abdul Nashiru Issahaku after just a year in the position.

According to a statement by Eugene Arhin, the Director of Communications in the Presidency, the president after received the outgoing governor’s letter decided to appoint a replacement.

The incoming governor had served as Director of Research in the bank between 2003 and 2011 and Chief Economist for the West Africa Monetary Institute from 2001 to 2002.

Until his appointment , he was a leading regional economist of the African Development Bank at its Southern Africa Resource Centre.

Dr. Addison joined the African Development Bank in May 2011 and has worked as a lead economist. Before joining the AfDB, Dr. Addison was a Director of Research at the Bank of Ghana from 2003 to 2011. He was also the Chief Economist at the West African Monetary Institute from 2000 – 2003.

He holds BA in economics from the University of Ghana Legon from 1982 to 1986. He also holds a Master of Philosophy (M.Phil) from University of Cambridge from 1987 to 1989 and a PhD in Economics from McGill University from 1989 to 1993.
