Abraham Kiptom of Kenya has defended the title he won last year, coming first in the international category of the 2nd Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, defending his title.
The Kenyan had earlier told said in January that he likes to this year’s race and he has come tops again.
However, Philip Sharabutu the first Nigerian male title retained his title and Emmanuel Gyang came second in the Nigerian male category.
The Lagos Marathon was well attended by elite and amateur athletes from over 10 countries. According to the organisers, over 30,000 people participated in the race.
Both able bodied Nigerians and the physically challenged were seen running on Saturday morning either for the big prize of USD50,000 or for fun. Kids were also not left out as some were riding their bicycles along.
From observation, it is clear that this year’s race was better put together with more corporate sponsorship involved to make the race standout.
Celebrities such as Bovi, Olamide, Davido, Kiss Daniel and other musicians have been lined up to entertain those who have come out to cheer or grace the event.
Perhaps Abraham Kiptom would have to come to Lagos again next year for another challenge as their seem to be no one able to compete from Nigeria and other climes at the moment.
