Aero Contractors airline is back, with AMCON in full control

Nearly four months after it announced a closure of its flight operations, Aero Contractors, a local airline has announced it going back into the skies.

In a statement credited to its CEO, Captain Akinkotu, he said ”

We are delighted to inform our esteemed customers that our schedule operation is back. Full flights will commence on Thursday, December 22, 2016, with consistent passenger demand despite the suspension of schedule services. This patronage reinforces the strength of our brand and the quality of our service.
He added that “We are aware of the impact the four months suspension had on our staff and our highly esteemed customers. Hence our move to return to operations is to continue to offer the most reliable, safe and secure operations, which the airline is renowned for.”

For all its passengers with valid tickets prior to its closure, the airline implored that to contact the call desk to validate their tickets.

Apart from the scarcity of Forex and economic downturn affecting operations of airlines,  Aero had been neck deep in debt. According internal sources, Aero was said be in a total debt of NGN20 billion as at the time of its takeover by the asset management company of Nigeria, AMCON.

AMCON, was the asset management company that bought toxic debt from Nigerian banks in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis that led to the neat collapse of five banks.

Sources also claim that AMCON might be owning the airline 100% after it replaced the airline and injected about NGN14 billion into the airline.
