Have you been harassed by law enforcement agencies with regards to your number plate? Worry no more as the Lagos State Motor Vehicle Administration Agency, MVAA, has introduced a website through which motorists and law enforcement agencies can confirm the authenticity and genuineness of number plates issued by the agency.
The MVAA came up with the idea in order to checkmate and end the unnecessary harassment of motorists by Officials of the Nigerian Police, Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC) and other Security Agencies.
In a report on Vanguard, the General Manager of the agency Mr Lateef Lawal stated that the situation became worrisome and embarrassing to the state government and its clients when incessant reports, calls, Short Message Service, SMS, e-mails and visits from licensee became rampant that vehicles duly registered with Lagos State number plates were being impounded by FRSC and other security officials.
He advised that the general public particularly motorists, FRSC and other Security Agencies to visit the MVAA’s website on www.lsmvaapvs.org to verify the authenticity and genuineness of number plates issued by the MVAA. MVAA boss explained that the site is easy to navigate, once logged in, type in the number plate and wait for the confirmation of the details of the vehicle.
This is indeed a welcome initiative and it is also commendable. The question is, if the other agencies on the highways are ready to embrace the new culture as it would mean that they would be digitally empowered to be able to perform their duties to the fullest capacity. Meanwhile, another area that may be of concern is sensitizing the general public which is key.
If the above areas can be solved genuinely, perhaps the initiative would be fully efficient and it would b goodbye to harassment and argument between authorities and road users as regards the issue of number plates.
