The Lagos state government has announced that it will be phasing out the yellow buses from the city by the year 2017.
This announcement was made by the Executive Governor of Lagos state, Akinwunmi Ambode disclosed these and many other plans of his government to a gathering of local and international investors.
The Governor said plans are being perfected to ease out the yellow buses from the main part of the city in order to pave way for a more modern, conducive and affordable mode of transportation that investors can participate in.
As to how the project will be funded, the government plans to partner with Ibile Holdings, an indigenous investment vehicle alongside other private companies that will be coopted into the programme.
Lagos is home to thousands of yellow buses across nooks and crannies of the state. Part of the challenges ahead is the task of coopting drivers and private individuals who might see the change as too drastic.
Lagosians have over the year complained about the safety, poor quality of service and neatness of these yellow buses. The phasing out of these buses would further improved public confidence in the transport systems.
