Knut Ulvmoen, Group Managing Director, Dangote Group

Mr. Knut Ulvmoen (Norwegian) is the Group Managing Director, Dangote Cement Plc in charge of Sales and Marketing and International Trade in the African continent. He holds a Masters of Science degree in Business and is a member of the Norwegian Association of Authorised Accountants.

Mr. Ulvmoen is a management professional with extensive background in finance and administration of multinational companies.

Before joining Dangote Group in 1996 as Group Finance Director, he had worked in Revisor-Centret – a firm of Chartered Accountants in Oslo – (1973 to 1975); EMMA EDB A.S, then Norway’s largest computer service company (1975 to 1978); the Norcem Group, Norway (1978 to 1986) where he rose to become the Chief Financial Controller of the International/Export division of Norcem Cement; and Scancem International ANS (1986 to 1996) during which period he acted as General Manager of Eastern Bulkcem Co. Ltd and was also assigned to Scancem Industries Inc, Pennsylvania, USA as Controller/Finance Manager.

Mr. Ulvmoen, who was also Group Managing Director/Chief Operating Officer of the Dangote Group between 2002 and 2007, played a key role in strategic conceptualisation of the Group’s largest expansion project ever in building an integrated cement factory at Obajana, Kogi State and in acquiring majority ownership of Benue Cement Company Plc (BCC), plus establishing among others, the largest sugar refineries, flour milling, pasta production plants and polypropylene plants in the world. Mr. Ulvmoen also had a key position in expanding Dangote Group’s transport unit.

Before then, he successfully managed a process of aggressive but controlled expansion that grew Dangote Group turnover from $200 million in 1998 to the current level exceeding $3 billion. He was also instrumental in moving the Group from an import and trading company into a manufacturing conglomerate with tentacles across the African continent.

Mr. Ulvmoen has also in the last seven years been Deputy Vice President, Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), responsible for receiving foreign delegates from all over the world coming to the Chamber.
