According to Bloomberg report, Some of the schoolgirls seized from the northeastern Nigerian town of Chibok by Islamist militants more than two years ago have been released, Femi Adesina, a spokesman of the presidency, said by phone from the capital, Abuja.
The British Broadcasting Corp. reported earlier that 21 girls were released, citing an unidentified government official.
Journey to freedom?
In August, Nigerian government announced that it was planning to start a swap with Boko Haram.
According to a statement released by the government, various security agencies including the federal prisons service, the Nigeria police and military will be involved in the process.
It would be recalled that Boko Haram recently released a video calling for the release of their members as a condition for freeing remaining Chibok Girls in their capitivity.
The group also alledged that Nigeria’s military killed some of the girls in an airstrike, an allegation the military denied vehemently.
There is no confirmation from the government if ransom was paid and or any prisoner swap took place. No information has been provided on the release of other girls in captivity.
