In a few days, the Senior men’s football national team, Super Eagles are expected to confront Zambia in a Russia 2018 World cup qualifier, but the Nigeria Football Federation NFF has been running from pillar to post in search of funds.
The NFF has insisted that there is no money in its coffers to prosecute the game against the Chipolopolo in Ndola on Sunday, and pleaded for funding from the government to save save the occasion.
There are claims that the federation may have received some funds recently with regards to sponsorship and some other funds generated through marketing from organized private sector. A former director of marketing at the NFF, Idris Adama has accused the leadership of the football house of being unjust and with the claims about the federation account.
Adama shared his view via social media in a report on goal and revealed that the NFF received sufficient funds before his unceremonious disengagement.
‘Despite consistent political and leadership crisis of the NFF coupled with lack of confidence on the leadership by the organised private sector, I generated for them N1.4billion, in addition to Euros 780,000.00 and $1million annually, Adama noted.
‘My reward was to be sent out unceremoniously. It’s all well and good. I have moved on long time. But ask them, Emzor Pharmaceutical has paid N35million, Supersport has paid $1million and Globacom is owing which was due on the 7th July 2016 N382,500,000.00. Where are these monies?
Could this be just a rant from a disgruntled ex-staff or is this an allegation Nigerians must really prob? The leadership of the federation led by Amaju pinnick owe it a duty to explain in details first in defense of the board, and secondly as an accountable public office holder to clear the air.
The team is expected to jet out early Saturday morning to Ndola according to reports from the federation while the Sports Minister has also confirmed that the Presidency has approved a release of funds to savage the situation.
