Joe Hart and Claudio Bravo are unarguably among top choice goalkeepers in the world, but both will also agree that their gaffes at the weekend were below per.
It was quite an interesting weekend as English fans were thrilled to an eventful Manchester Derby which saw Bravo make his debut for the victorious Blue side of the City while Hart also featured for Torino in the Italian Serie A.
On Saturday in the derby, Bravo dropped a Wayne Rooney cross which saw Zlatan Ibrahimovic score in their 2-1 win over the Reds. The Chilean did not dwell on his mistakes, rather, he pulled himself together and ensure his debut was a success.
Here is what Pep Guardiola had to say about his new choice who replaced Joe Hart as his preferred in terms of distribution: “What Claudio did was one of the best performances I’ve ever seen. I like goalkeepers to play in front and after that goal, he continued playing in our build-up, playing long balls and coming out to pick it up. In football, it’s about how you react to mistakes — it shows character. He continued playing. It means a lot.”
For Hart who was also making history as the first England Goalkeeper to play in the Serie A, his error cost Torino a 2-1 loss to Atlanta despite taking a one nil lead into the game. There cam a chance to make amends when Atlanta were awarded a penalty kick but Hart was was sent the wrong way as Atlanta scored their second.
I am not angry with Hart, said Torino coach Sinisa Mihajlovic. ”It was personal mistake and this is normal during a match. He did not deal with the corner that well but this is football. No problem. He still had a good match and he made a good save in the first half.
