Aviation Trends Report, airlines’ industry research carried out in Nigeria by Forsa in conjunction with Turkish Airlines shows that majority of Nigerians now book their flights online via mobile and personal computers without using agents and other third parties.

PageOne Big Business Desk received an exclusive copy the 2015 edition of the Aviation Trends Report shows that 84% of Nigerian air passengers indicated that they book their flights themselves using the Internet.

When asked about their preferred online source of booking about 54% of air passengers booked their flights using price comparison sites. The research also pointed to the fact that ‘frequent fliers’ often book flights online compared to occasional travellers. All passengers claim that price is key to their choice of flight and airlines when booking their flights.

Respondents were asked questions on their experience before, during and after the flight experience. An insight overview of the findings: Nigerian travellers now see air travel as an integral part of their holiday planning. The report also showed that Nigerian air travellers are very demanding and their requirements ‘do not always correspond with services offered by airlines.

As a takeout to all airlines, 75% Nigerian passengers said they prefer to pay an all-inclusive price for flights- including “luggage allowance, in-flight meals, choice of seats etc”.

When asked about what they want to see in an airline in the future, 68% of all passengers wish to use Internet during flight. It gets more interesting to note that Nigeria’s preference for having Internet access onboard is the highest amongst all the countries surveyed.

Commenting on the Aviation Trends Report, Temel Kotil, CEO of Turkish Airlines said ” By offering some insightful information about the global comparison and the Nigerian aviation market, we hope to contribute to creating more diversification and innovation within the Nigerian aviation business”.

The base population for the report are all English speaking individuals, aged 18 years and older, living in private households, who have flown with an airline company in the last 2 years and who belong to the online population in Nigeria. Sample size was 200 airline passenger via online-Interviews using a structured questionnaires.

The research project was carried out by Forsa. Gesellschaft für Sozialforschung und statistische Analysen, Berlin on behalf of Turkish Airlines. Turkish Airlines said it carries the research across all the countries where it operate.
