It is no longer news that the much awaited record transfer move has seen the light of the day after Manchester United on Monday night confirmed the signing of Paul Pogba
He was signed for a fee of EUR105 million including bonuses of EUR5 million from Juventus surpassing the previous world record holder Gareth Bale.
The 23-year was given a chance in the 2011-2012 season where he made only seven first team appearances for United under Sir Alex Ferguson before joining Italia Serie A side Juventus in search of playing time. With United’s youth team, he had his stint, scored goals, provided assist and soon he became ripe for senior team only to be handed the call up by Ferguson to have a taste of topflight football who also did not doubt his potentials.
Going back to the controversy which surrounded his move when he joined the Red devils as a youth from Le Havre in France, the club (Le Havre) felt betrayed with the circumstance, accused the player and his parents refused to keep the arrangement because Manchester United offered very high sums of money to lure the player which he eventually did. Needless to ask why the world had to wait for the deal to be concluded referencing his Agent’s part in the entire process.
It must be said that he has obviously become a better player and established pitching his tents with the Bianconeri where he went on to win Four successive Serie A titles, two Coppa Italia titles, two Super- Coppa Italiana trophies, received Golden Boy and Bravo awards, and was selected in the FIFA FIFPro World XI and UEFA Team of the Year in 2015.
Joining Juventus at the time was huge and impact where he had an opportunity to play alongside midfield maestro Andre Pirlo who encouraged the young lad. How much of influence this had on his career cannot be over-emphasized having been allowed much space to explore and unleash his creative ability on opponents when needed.
Presence: He gives cover to the defense as a central midfield player, wins aerial and intercepts passes quite well. His physical presence can sometimes be overwhelming to opponents as he powers his way through and dictates the play within his own team.
Creativity and Attacking Prowess: With his ability to push the attack, Pogba’s gets himself into pole positions to either get a goal or linkup with strikers who do the finish.
Eye for Goal: Pogba will score goals! In fact, he has proven to be tested and trusted in match situations with goal-scoring ability from long distance, close range and dead balls. As a midfielder his goal stats says it 10 goals in 2014/2015 and 2015/2016 seasons, nine in the previous.
Pogba’s quality or ability is unquestionable, however, are the United’s faithfuls willing to understand that he will not be the sole messiah but would need to join forces with Ibrahimovic and Captain Wayne Rooney in order to take the club to the next level under Mourinho.
