In a bid to curb the sales of fake gas cylinders in Nigeria, the Director- General of Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), Dr Paul Angya advised that gas cylinder retailers should reject gas cylinders that do not have an inscription of SON certification, country of origin and company name.
SON, is an organisation that ensures that locally manufactured products in Nigeria give the required degree of satisfaction to consumers through compliance with government policies on standardisation and conformity assessment.
SON is reaching out to the Liquefied Petroleum Gas Retailers Association of Nigeria for assistance in extinguishing sales and spread of substandard gas cylinders in Nigeria.
Dr Paul Angya called for the partnership at a workshop organised for members of LPGRAN in Akure, Ondo State. He explained that the partnership and some other measures taken by the organisation would ensure safety in various homes, saying the incidence of burst cylinders have been on the increase in the country.
He added that the organisation would soon come out with a tracking and monitoring system with a database so as to ensure effective implementation and re-qualification of substandard gas cylinders in the market. This would in turn remove all substandard gas cylinders from the market across the country.
All of these measures are in line with the major aim of SON’s operations which is improving the lives of people through quality assurance and standards.
