As predicted by PageOne, Dr. Mohammed Barkindo has been unanimously appointed as the Secretary-General of OPEC.
This also following the news that despite the damage done to Nigeria’s oil installation and production by the militant group that goes by the name Niger Delta Avenger, Ibe Kachikwu, Nigeria’s minister of state for petroleum resources announced that Nigeria’s oil production is now up to 1.6 million barrels per day.
According to latest data, OPEC member countries produce about 40 percent of the world’s crude oil. Equally important to global prices, OPEC’s oil exports represent about 60 percent of the total petroleum traded internationally.
Born February 1944 in Yola, Adamawa state in Nigeria’s North eastern region, Muhammadu Barkindo Aliyu Musdafa Barkindo is the eldest son of the Lamido Aliyu Musdafa. He attended Barewa College, Zaria and then Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria where he obtained a Diploma in Law in 1969.
