According to local sources, pilots of Dana Air, one of NIgeria’s major local airlines have gone on an indefinite strike over non-payment of their wages.
People with the knowldege of the matter told TheCable.ng, a local new site that Dana Air’s pilots have not been paid since March.
According to TheCable ‘ passengers were informed at the check-in counter that there would be a “slight delay”.
At the Abuja airport, announcements were regularly made via the PA system announcing a delay by “one hour”, a stranded passenger told TheCable.
“The deceit is too much. But you cannot blame Dana. It is the regulatory system that allow such maltreatment of passengers that should bear the blame,” he said.
Dana Air has not had it rough like Arik, the Nigeria’s largest airline. Arik has had several shut downs often attributed to its indebtedness to government agencies. Nigerian local airlines are under financial stress due high costs of running the business.
