Less 24 hours Iberia suspended all flight operations to Nigeria, another bad news has hit the sector. Arik Air‘s domestic operations have been shut down by Aviation Union over the airlines inability to pay its debt owed to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN.
While the airline has not denied owing the FAAN, the company said it is seeking redress in the Federal High Court. Arik’s passengers have been left stranded at the Murtala Mohammed Airport, MMA2 in Lagos, the busiest airport in Nigeria.
In an official statement released by Arik Air, the airline said the union is taking laws into their hands as the contentious issue is currently in court.
The airline has not announced any date or time when it will commence flights. Arik Air is the largest domestic carrier. The company started operations in 2006. Its international flights ply New York and London daily from Lagos.
