How To Combat Puffy Eyes With Natural Remedies

Puffy eyes also known as “EYE BAGS” can be very off-putting, they make you look ill, unkept and don’t make makeup sit properly. Here are 5 natural remedies to help combat puffy eyes and bring it down almost immediately.

Aloe Vera

The antioxidants and vitamin E present in aloe vera are effective in reducing puffiness around the eyes and also help keep wrinkles and fine lines away.  By applying a little aloe vera gel on the swollen part of your eyes, the flow of blood will be improved helping to flush out the fluids causing te puffiness, thus reducing swelling immediately.

Tea Bags


You can either use a green or black tea bag as they both have the same effect, they contain anti-irritant properties that help soothe and reduce puffy and irritated eyes.


  • Refrigerate 2 used tea bags for about 30 minutes.
  • Place the tea bags on your eye lids while lying down.
  • Leave for 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Repeat a few times a day to get the best results




Chilled cucumbers make a good remedy for treating puffy and irritated eyes. The enzymes and the astringent properties in cucumbers help reduce inflammation and help tighten the skin. This remedy also helps get rid of wrinkles and dark circles around your eyes.


  1. Cut a cucumber into thick slices.
  2. Refrigerator for about 5-10 minutes.
  3. Place the cold slices on your eyelids for about 10 minutes or until they become warm.
  4. Repeat a few times a day to get the best results

Egg Whites


It is a known fact that egg whites have skin-tightening properties, no wonder it is a go to remedy for reducing eye bags.


  1. Extract the yolks from 2 eggs and put the whites in a bowl.
  2. Whip the egg whites thoroughly.
  3. Add a few drops of a natural skin-tightening astringent eg Neutrogena Clear Pore Oil Eliminating Astringent
  4. Use a brush or soft cloth to apply this mixture under your eyes and allow it to dry.
  5. Leave it on for about 15 minutes.
  6. Do this daily for a few days.




Just like cucumbers, potatoes are also effective in getting rid of puffy eyes. The starch present in potatoes has anti-inflammatory properties that help reduce eye bags. This remedy is also helpful for fading dark circles under eyes.

  1. Peel, wash and dry a medium-size potato.
  2. Grate the potato and put the shavings in a clean cloth and tie it up.
  3. Place this cloth over your eyelids for several minutes.
  4. Repeat the process several times until the puffiness subsides.
