The ‘overnight’ announcement of Chelsea midfielder, John Obi Mikel as the captain of the Super Eagles may not be as portrayed by the team and administration.
Report has it that Mikel insisted he would not feature in the AFCON qualifier against Egypt if he does not get the captain’s arm-banned.
Mikel was assistant to Lille shot-stopper, Vincent Enyeama prior to Sunday Oliseh’s tenure as coach of the Eagles who preferred Ahmed Musa as his captain.
”Mikel made it very clear to Siasia he be made captain if the coach wanted him to play the crucial matches against Egypt,” a top source informed African Football.

As events unfold, Nigerians will find out the truth if indeed Ahmed Musa was pressured to surrender the Eagles captaincy.
More so, Solomon Dalung, Nigeria’s Sports Minister, will receive NFF’s delegation on Tuesday 5th of April. Perhaps this fresh allegation may also be a part of the discussion as the Technical committee defends its role in AFCON 2017 ouster.
