In response to reports of violence recorded at the Akure Township Stadium during the rivalry match between Sunshine Stars and 3SC of Ibadan, the management of the home team has described the news as untrue.
The Akure based club through its Media officer, Wahab Bankole issued a statement to clear the air on the report.
”There was no time before, during and after the match that match officials were attacked or harassed as being speculated in some quarters.
”No encroachment by the fans during the game as the match was not stopped for a single minute by the match officials, if there was encroachment as claimed in some quarters, then the match will witness stoppages.
“The match officials were not smuggled out of the stadium, what for? The match started and ended peacefully. So why would the match officials be smuggled out ? Top officials of Sunshine Stars including the club President, Prince John Ola Mafo left the stadium peacefully, so also the match officials”.
Sunshine Stars have drawn two matches at home this season and heaven did not fall.
“All the three goals scored in the match were genuine and great goals devoid of controversy. So there is no need to create any tension where there was none”, the statement read.
The 2-1 victory marked the first three points garnered by Sunshine this season.
