For the Umpteenth Time, Nigerian Senate Can’t Pass Budget

Bukola Saraki

Another series of delay in the passing of Nigeria’s national budget has been announced. The Senate President of Nigeria’s upper chamber, Bukola Saraki, announced on its Twitter handle that the budget will only be presented today for deliberation and amendment.

For more than three months, Nigeria’s executive arm of government have not been able to pass the 2016 budget. The Parliament alleged series of errors and padded figures in the budget that needed cleaning and scrutiny.

Nigeria’s economy has been under serious pressure since the global crude oil price slump. This dilly-dallying by Nigeria’s leadership will only compound the country’s problems.
