Tuface Idibia, wife, Anie and Antonio Anifite have been sued before a Federal High Court in Lagos demanding N120m for damages due to breach of agreement. One Emmanuel Okolo is the plaintiff in the lawsuit.
He alleged that the defendants used on Tuface’s site (2faceonline.com) some of the photographs taken by Papilonmexy Films Studios Limited, his company at the traditional wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Idibia in Eket, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria in 2013 without attributing the source of the photographs.
The Nigerian couple celebrity requested the dismissal of the photographer’s suit by Justice M.B Idris, who presided over the case. They also filed a counterclaim demanding N150m damages fine from the plaintiff and his studio. They claimed that the photographer, who walked into the venue of their traditional wedding uninvited, took photographs and circulated online with Papilonmexy studio watermark on them for commercial reasons without their permission. They also said he (the photographer) wanted popularity, thereby forced the photographs on them. The Idibias claims Okolo had plans to blackmail them and extort money from them. They also asked the court to order Papilonmexy Studio remove their photographs posted online by the company.
October 16, 2016 has been fixed for commencement of trial by the judge presiding over the case, Justice Mohammed Idris of the Federal High Court.
