No More Random- Instagram Curation Ships

Instagram the popular photo and short video sharing app just announced that its users will henceforth have a new experience. Users will no longer see random pictures of their friends and non-friends followers but pictures and short videos that are very relevant to them based on their interaction and past relationships.

This is perhaps, one of Facebook‘s strategy to further prep-up Instagram for advertising by making the content more relevant to users of the app. Because Instagram curation allows users to see more content from people they interact with most often, it becomes a problem solver for brands who are doing amazingly-well on the platform.

The downside to the new feature is that it takes away the positive ‘randomness’ of a typical social platform like Instagram. Facebook, Twitter and Snapchat have all implemented this feature in their move to align user experience with commercial strategy.
