In a move construed as suspicious and compromised, hundreds of thousands of Brazilians protested the announcement of Former President Lula Inacio Da Silva as the Chief of Staff to President Dilma Rousseff.

Lula who is billed to be tried for alleged corruption charges was announced as the new Chief of Staff on  Wednesday; a move seen by the opposition as an attempt to give him immunity and shield him from imminent trial.

Brazil’s opposition are reportedly emboldened in their protest by a leaked secret tape where Lula discussed his upcoming trial with Dilma. Apparently released by the presiding Judge, however, the tape is not explicitly implicating Dilma and or Lula.
