The home-based Super Eagles have progressed to the semi final of the ongoing African Nations Championship CHAN, following a 2-1 victory over Angola in Tangier, Morocco.
Coach Salisu Yusuf’s men came from a lone goal down to beat the Palancas Negras.
Anthony Okpotu was set up as early as the first minutes in the match but the Lobi Stars forward failed to put his side ahead.
Angola took the lead in the 55th minutes following a barren first half full of wasted chances. Timothy Danladi who had replaced injured Kalu Orji tried clear form the area but hit the ball at oncoming Vladamir Felix as the ball beat goalkeeper Ikechuwku Ezenwa.
At the stroke of 90 minutes, it was redemption time for Anthony Okpotu as he grabbed the equalizer for Nigeria before Gabriel Okechukwu who was having his first match finished off the game in the 109 minutes.
This is the second time the Eagles will come back from behind to win a game in the championship. Against Equatorial Guinea, Salisu’s men had to turn the tides around to win 3-1.
Nigeria now faces Sudan in the semi final in Marrakech on Wednesday 7.30 local time (8.20 Nigerian time).
