Russia 2018: Rohr committed to working with young players

Super Eagles Coach Gernot Rohr has declared his intentions to maintain the squad that ensured the team’s qualification for the World Cup.

The Franco-German tactician made the statement while speaking with a section of the journalist at the CHAN Eagles camp in Tangiers Morocco.

“Fact is that we have the youngest team of the world cup,’ Roh said. When you have young players, they don’t play all the time in the clubs. And another fact is that we do not have these big players we had in the 80’ and 90, very big players in Africa such as Jay Jay Okocha, Kanu and the other.

“We have a team. When you are collectively strong, you are not dependent on the fitness of one or the other player. This I hope can bring us to good world cup and can give us the chance to get good result.”

“I think we have the players who must until now may have to chane and be sure to play because we need players who are playing in the clubs, that is where the work is done.’ The time is too short to give them the rhythm of the games, it’s not the few friendlies that we can play.”

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Football federation has announced the world cup friendly games to prepare the team ahead of the world cup in Russia.

The Eagles will play Poland on March 23 in Poland, travel to London to play Serbia on March 27, and later play DR Congo in Abuja billed for May 25.

Also, the much publicized friendly against the Three Lions of England will come up in June 2nd at the Wembley stadium before leaving for Austria to tackle Czech Republic on June 6th 2018
