Plateau United wins 2016/2017 Nigeria Professional Football League

Plateau United are champions of the 2016/2017 Nigeria Professional football league following a victory against last season winners Rangers FC.

The Jos-based side defeated visiting Rangers by 2-0, while top of the table rivals MFM FC also lost 1-2 to El-kanemi warriors in Maiduguri.

This feat marks the first of its kind for the Peace boys of Jos and they were heavily rewarded with a cheque of NGN50 million.

Should Plateau United had lost on the final day, MFM FC would also have needed to win in Maiduguri to claim the trophy as the Jos side led the Olukoya boys with a single point.

However, bother Plateau United and MFM FC will represent the country in the CAF champions league next year while Enyimba sealed the CAF Confederation Cup slot on the final day.

Remo Star, Gombe United, Shooting Stars also known as 3SC, and ABS of Ilorin have been confirmed to have relegated to the Nigeria National League division.
