Farmers could heave a sigh of relief as the Federal Government has said that it is working towards ensuring that a bag of fertilizer sells for N5,000 next year.
This was made known by the Minister of Agriculture, Audu Ogbeh, on Tuesday at the Presidential Villa at the Old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja at a special town hall meeting for the youth.
He urged the the youth to go into agriculture, urged them not to see it as an occupation for the peasants.
Ogbeh said he was the first Nigerian to mill rice free of stones in 1986, but was discouraged to continue because commercial banks then had a high interest rate for farmers.
The minister also asked the youth to patronize made-in-Nigeria goods and stop transferring wealth meant for Nigerians to other economies.
Youths and Sports Minister, Mr. Solomon Dalung said his ministry was partnering with some other ministries to empower and engage the youth in different sectors of the economy.
Dalung also disclosed that his ministry was planning to return “institutional sports” which was in vogue in the past.
